Whether you need home, work, or school pickup, Be A Good Driver Edinburgh Driving Lessons has you covered. Gorgie Road (A71), Slateford Road (A70), and their surrounding areas are a bit too far into town to appear on the driving test routes at Currie. There are fewer areas for first-time drivers to get started, so expect your instructor to drive you to a suitable practice area for the first few lessons. There are limited junction and road types, but there is still a great deal of experience to be gained from learning in these areas:

• Dalry

As Lanark Road (A70) leads into Slateford Road, the first real indication that you are getting closer to town appears in the form of a 20mph speed limit. Cycle lanes, bus lanes, and bus stops sporadically open up on the left in an effort to manage traffic on roads barely wide enough to do so. Passing into Shandon, lights create a bottleneck of traffic heading to Dalry, Fountainbridge, or Polwarth.

Approaching town further north, from Calder Road (A71) into Gorgie and eventually Dalry, traffic merges from two lanes to one when entering Chesser; this becomes another pinch point, especially during rush hour. Continuing along into the centre of Gorgie, there are lots of pedestrians, pedestrian crossings, parked cars, cycle lanes, and bus stops—a tricky but rewarding drive for semi-trained drivers, especially if done without instructor intervention. Note: This area should definitely be avoided during Heart of Midlothian Football Club home games at Tynecastle Park. Further on, Tynecastle High School hightens hazard awareness as students arrive and leave school. Then on to Dalry, where side streets can be a decent area for first-time learners, and there are ample supermarket car parks for practicing manoeuvres.

Hutchison and Chesser Road meet to create a thoroughfare between the western fringes of Gorgie and Slateford, and it is an excellent place for learners to practice light-controlled junctions. It is a busy area due to a large supermarket and Edinburgh West Retail Park being in close proximity. A learner's planning, anticipation, and car control can really be developed in and around here, with plenty of parallel and bay parking opportunities. I don't recommend Asda however, due to poorly marked spaces.

Fountainbridge is another busy area with lots of student accommodation and Boroughmuir High School. Fountain Park offers a decent pickup or drop-off point for learners staying or working further in town.
