There are many fraudulent instructors in Edinburgh. Driving examiners are reporting them to the police however they continue to work as instructors in the area.
It is important that they are reported as they have not had the necessary PVG and criminal record checks to confirm they are a fit and proper person to be allowed to teach in a one to one environment. Not to mention not qualified to show you how a car should be driven in the UK.
To become a driving instructor you must pass three tests; part 1, an extended theory test, part 2 an extended driving test and the part 3, the ability to coach/teach test.
You can sit the first 2 tests as many times as you need however you only have 3 chances to pass the teaching test before having to start over.
If you manage to pass the first 2 tests you can legally charge money for lessons provided you hold a valid trainee license and have had the necessary PVG and criminal record checks. The trainee license is only meant to be used for a maximum of 6 months. Although after covid trainees had been aloud to hold a trainee license for considerably longer due to a backlog of part 3 tests.
Only 35% of trainees pass the part 3 to become a fully qualified approved driving instructor (ADI)
The trainee license is meant to help trainee ADI's gain the much needed experience along side thier training to pass their part 3 exam. However, many of the large driving schools and some independent schools are using it to obtain more work and don't tell the customer that a trainee will be providing their lessons.

GREEN BADGE in the car of your instructor this means they are FULLY QUALIFIED and will be accompanied a photo of they instructor.
A PINK BADGE: means they are a TRAINEE this will also have the instructors picture.
NO BADGE: Not passed any tests, criminal record checks or PVG checked.
